AFTER THREE YEARS AND THOUSANDS OF SONGS, 325 GUESTS AND MANY GREAT HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT, THE ARIZONA MUSIC CAFE WILL FINISH OUR LAST LIVE SHOW ON SUNDAY, SEPT 25th.
We want to thank all our fans and listener and musical guests over the years who made the show so much fun and so interesting to listen and enjoy. I have appreciated the opportunity to get to do this and could never have imagined that we would be on this long. Why is it over? Its just time. We took it as far as we could. When you reach that point, then its time.
We thank: KKNT for making it possible…they were hugely supportive and worked right alongside us through the entire time. Martin Sielaff for managing the website and all the hours he put in keeping it going and seeing to it that all the shows remain available. We thank all the musicians who played on time and in tune and gave their all over the air, along with their families and friends. The fans who appreciated the work and the music. I thank my wife Sandi, who put up with my Sunday absences, put up the photos, packed me off with cold water and a sandwich, and never complained. And my family who endured my endless rattling on and on about the show and what we should do next and my relentless indecision.
Chris Frazer, who inspired the idea with his dedication to the open mic scene in Phoenix, we were really just a radio show built around the open mic concept (with a nod to Johnny Carson). Also, Rhonda Hitchcock, my erstwhile co-host and host, who made Chicks with Picks and AZ MUSIC CAFE a nice combo and who always had an encouraging word. Jon Iger and Terri Sussman, both of whom helped me figure out who to contact and where to go when we started this thing. And special friends, Jim Pipkin, Mary Hoffman, Darin Mahoney, Chava Cannon, Rick Wall, Rex Anderson, Alan Rockman, and others who were a big part of the show in front of the mic and behind the scenes. And thanks to Ken, Jeremy and Gil, the engineers who kept it all balanced and worked with me went I went over my time and decoded my desperate hand signals.
And a very special thanks to my children for being such good sports about my spending their inheritance on this project. Way to go kids!
